Our lean, fast-paced, entrepreneurial company is seeking an experienced Analyst/junior Associate to join our Underwriting team. The position will report directly to the Head of Underwriting and will have daily exposure to senior management including members of the Investment Committee and the founders of the Company. The candidate will be instrumental in supporting the day-to-day due diligence activities for our cannabis-focused REIT, and will be instrumental in driving forward financial analysis, interaction with borrowing groups, and the overall loan closing process. Our company is focused on the exciting, ever-changing, burgeoning cannabis industry and the candidate will be heavily involved in underwriting real estate (including construction), cash flows, licenses, regulations and more.


Due Diligence
  • Request, receive, organize, interpret, and analyze diligence documents pertaining to various loans in process
  • Manage due diligence checklist and report updates to Head of Real Estate Underwriting
  • Assist and/or lead due diligence calls while being inquisitive and intellectually curious
  • Order and assist in reviewing necessary third-party reports such as Quality of Earnings (QoE), Environmental Phase I’s and II’s, Property Condition Reports, Geotechnical Reports, and other critical reports required for loan closings
Financial Analysis and Modeling
  • Coordinating with borrowing entities to receive and analyze financial statements
  • Understand, produce, and recommend critical financial analysis inputs for loan closings
  • Lead financial analysis of borrowing entities while being inquisitive and diligent
  • Setting financial covenants for respective loan closings
  • Valuation analysis through precedent transaction, comparable company, discounted cash flow, and IRR analyses
  • Assembling Sources & Uses tables and producing associated IRR models based on respective loan terms
  • Conducting data analysis to understand industry trends, borrowing entity performance, and making sense of any other types of data received using Microsoft Excel
Support Loan Closings in an Investment Committee Facing Role
  • Assist VP / Head of Real Estate Underwriting in driving forward investment committee memorandums for respective closings
  • Provide Executive Management with updates as it pertains to loan closings and deal status
  • Relentless communication with all counter parties involved in the loan closing process via e-mail, phone, and in-person meetings
  • Oversee all collection of data and information for each mandate, and organize said data effectively for ease of access
  • Manage loan closing tracker and ensure diligence updates are recorded daily and available for Executive Management
Lead Strategic Initiatives and Collaboration
  • Relentless improvement of all applicable processes and systems
  • Collaborate with peers in other departments in pursuit of business objectives
  • Be an Underwriting team member resource for the Originations and Investor Relations teams


  • 2+ years’ experience in either Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Leveraged Finance, Credit Analysis, Real Estate Acquisitions, or another highly-analytical Financial Analyst role
  • Strong understanding of Financial Statements and Real Estate industry (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Cannabis (preferred, but not necessary)
  • Solid analytical skills and quantitative skills
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • General accounting knowledge with a strong familiarity of financial statements
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel modeling skills; proficiency using PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, along with strong organization skills and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to handle highly confidential/sensitive information
  • Highly motivated, takes initiative and requires minimal supervision
